Minutes of the regular meeting of the Strathcona Gardens Commission held on Wednesday, July 14, 2021 at the Strathcona Regional District offices located at 990 Cedar Street, Campbell River, BC.

A quorum having been confirmed, the Chair called the meeting to order at 3:00 p.m. with the following Commissioners physically in attendance or participating electronically:

THAT the agenda for the July 14, 2021 regular meeting of the Strathcona Gardens Commission be adopted as presented.

ADOPTION OF PREVIOUS MEETING MINUTES

THAT the minutes of the regular meeting of the Strathcona Gardens Commission held on June 16, 2021 be adopted as presented.

BUSINESS ARISING FROM THE MINUTES
 
REC-REATE Artwork Design
 
Director Leigh sought clarification around whether First Nations art or a broader scope of art was being sought for Strathcona Gardens.
 
The Chief Administrative Officer clarified that it was not about specific art pieces, but about the character and design of the facility, and that the focus would be of a broad scope that includes local First Nations representation in the design.
 
The Chair advised that the matter would be discussed in detail when funding is secured.
 
 
CHAIRS' REPORTS
 
Green and Inclusive Community Buildings (GICB) Grant Application
 
The Chair advised that the federal government has released at $25 million grant opportunity and has been in discussion with the Chief Administrative Officer regarding a possible submission for Phase II or Phase III of the RE-CREATE project.

THAT the Commission recommend that the Regional District submit a grant application for areas planned to be renovated as part of the Re-Create project through Infrastructure Canada's Green and Inclusive Community Building (GICB) funding program.

NEW BUSINESS
 
2021 NHL Coach of the Year
 
The Chair advised that he contacted Rod Brind'Amour and his parents to send congratulations from the Commission for being awarded the 2021 Jack Adams award for NHL Coach of the Year.
 
 
 
TERMINATION
 
The Chair declared the July 14, 2021 regular meeting of the Strathcona Gardens Commission to be terminated.
