Strathcona Regional District office located at 990 Cedar Street, Campbell River, BC commencing at 10:30 a.m.

The purpose of the meeting is to permit consideration of matters listed on the agenda below and, where appropriate, to provide recommendations to the Regional Board. Unless otherwise noted, all resolutions will be decided pursuant to section 208(1) of the Local Government Act, which requires that all members of the Committee in attendance vote and each member receives one vote.

 First Nations Governance and Relationship Building Workshop
 
    a) FNRC 42/22

THAT the report from the Chief Administrative Officer be received. [Item]
 
 The First Nations Coordinator made a presentation summarizing the recent SRD First Nation Governance and Relationship Building workshops. [Item]
 
 Director Kerr joined the meeting.
 
    b) FNRC 43/22

THAT a report be prepared to outline a possible action plan with respect to the First Nations Governance Workshop.
 
 
I. CORRESPONDENCE

 Klahoose First Nation Treaty
 
    a) FNRC 44/22

THAT the April 26, 2022 correspondence from the Ministry of Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation regarding the status of the Klahoose First Nation treaty negotiations be received. [Item]
 
    b) FNRC 45/22

THAT the SRD write to Ms. Jessica Jamison and Mark Price expressing major concerns regarding the disrespectful treatment by MIRR to the elected local government. Under the Community Charter, the local government is considered a level of government and we expect appropriate respectful treatment; and

THAT copies are provided to the Premier, Indigenous Relations, and Klahoose First Nation.
 
 Uchucklesaht Tribe Government Economic Strategy
 
    c) FNRC 46/22

THAT the April 28, 2022 news release from the Island Coastal Economic Trust regarding support for the economic strategy of the Uchucklesaht Tribe Government be received. [Item]
 
    d) FNRC 47/22

THAT the SRD inform Island Coastal Economic Trust (IceT) Board that although we have supported the economic strategy that we do not favor bottle or bulk water endeavors since this is a resource that we cannot afford to consider.
 
    e) FNRC 48/22

THAT the matter be deferred to the next First Nations Relations Committee meeting.
 
 National Indigenous People's Day
 
    f) FNRC 49/22

THAT the correspondence from the Laichwiltach Family Life Society regarding National Indigenous People's Day for 2022 be received. [Item]
 
    g) FNRC 50/22

THAT SRD support National Indigenous Peoples Day of June 21, 2022 and provide a $500 GIA to the Laichwiltach Family Life Society.
